Food and feeding

Kapaus bettas will accept all foods but prefers live or frozen. Daphnia, blood worms and brine shrimp are ideal.

Origin

Asia; Kapaus bettas are found mainly in Borneo.

Sexing

Males will display a more intense colouration than the females. There may also be colouration on the males anal and tail fins.

Breeding

Betta krataios are paternal mouth brooders. The female may initiate the spawning and when the ritual dance is over she will deposit her eggs in the spawning site. Once fertilised, the female will spit the eggs at the male so that he can do the mouth brooding. Incubation can take from 1-2 weeks, depending on the water temperature.

Lifespan

The expected life span of Betta krataios is 4-6 years.

Short description

Being a peaceful species of Betta, Kapaus bettas can be housed together with other species. The male and female will live alongside each other quite happily. Rocks or wood should be added to the tank to provide hiding places and good filtration with regular water changes is required.
